Your Book, But Clearer. Smarter. Elevated

Book Editing For Emerging Authors

You have a voice, and it’s my job to make sure it’s heard. Together, we’ll transform your manuscript into a great work of writing. One that readers will be desperate to get their hands on.

“Kristina was my first editor. The first book she helped me with is definitely my best seller, and I think it’s because it is a higher quality product thanks to her edits.”

— Heather

Evaluation Services

Manuscript Evaluation

Like a consultation on steroids, this is the place to start if you’re unsure what’s next for your book. I’ll tell you what your manuscript needs—should there be more development, or can you skip ahead to a copy edit?—and recommend resources that meet you where you are. You get all of the benefits of working with an editor without the commitment or expense of a full edit.

$100

What’s Included

  • One pass through your manuscript from the eyes of an editor.
  • An in depth editorial letter detailing the project’s strengths and successes, areas to consider or build out, and recommendations for next steps in editing to reach your goals.
  • A list of resources, if applicable.
  • Fee credited toward Editing Services.

Beta Reading

Before it hits the editor’s desk, you’ll need feedback on your book from a reader’s point of view. Except—lucky you—I’m an avid reader who’s also professionally trained to evaluate your manuscript. As your beta reader, I’ll provide you detailed, qualified, ground floor feedback detailing the reader’s experience of your book so you can make it even better.

Editing Services

Developmental Edit

This edit zooms out and looks at the big picture of your book. You know: the story arc, character development, readability, plot, flow, your voice as a storyteller, and what’s missing from it all. A developmental edit is how we’ll take your book from “good” to “great.”

    Line/Copy Edit

Like peanut butter and jelly, copy and line editing can be done separately, but they are so much better together. As your editor, I’ll break down your sandwich story line by line, examining sentence structure, word choices, pacing, logical sequences, style, formatting, and language choices.

          My Process

          1. First, the hero (that’s you) seeks out help to slay her dragon. I’ll learn everything I need to know about your dragon . . . er, book . . . during a complimentary consultation and assess your best next steps.
          2. Whether we start with a sample edit, manuscript evaluation, or jump right into editing, I’ll be a collaborative partner whose only goal is to aid you on your quest. My favorite tools are Google Docs and Zoom calls—no swords or shields necessary.
          3. Like all good fairy tales, there’s a happy ending: I’ll deliver your edit in roughly three weeks (or longer, if your manuscript is more than 90,000 words), providing everything you need to crush your publishing goals and win your readers’ hearts. Dragon slayed.

“Kristina cares about my projects as much as I do. When she edits your book, your book is her world. She cares for the characters and the settings.”

            — Dani

            Meet Kristina Haahr

I know exactly how you feel right now. You’ve spent months—maybe even years—pouring your soul (and a fair amount of coffee) into your manuscript. So now that it’s time to hand your precious pages over to someone else, you’re anxious. How could an editor possibly understand what your work means to you? Except, I do understand, because I’ve been in your shoes. In a way, having my own writing published in academic journals has better prepared me to be an empathetic editor than 20 years of editing experience, four certifications, and ongoing education from the Associated Press and the Editorial Freelancers Association ever could.

            I’ll Call You Curious Georgina

What’s the difference between all of the different types of editing?

Each type of editing answers a different question:

            • Developmental editing: Does your storyline make sense?
            • Copy editing: Are you presenting your message well?
            • Line editing: Are your sentences well-structured?
            • Proofreading: Is your grammar correct?

            What’s a “pass”? What’s a “round”?

A pass is me reading through your book one time. While my evaluation services only include one pass, all of my editing services include multiple passes. A round of revisions is when you make changes to your project before I look at it again.

Do I have to start with a manuscript evaluation or beta read?

No, but I do recommend it if you haven’t had other eyes on your manuscript yet. Get in touch with me and we’ll discuss the best first step for you.

            Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! You’ll receive an invoice at the end of your project for the full amount due. Three installment payment plans are available at no additional cost.

            Help! I have another question!

I love a curious mind. You’ll find more frequently asked questions here. Or, you can always contact me directly.

Before You Hit That Button . . .

Before you hit that button and get in touch, you should know that there’s no ramp-up with me. When I’m in, I’m all in. Your book will be my new obsession. Your characters will be my new best friends. Achieving your goals will be my new focus. So I hope you’re looking for a true partner, because good luck getting rid of me.
